Money Tree (Braided)
Scientific Name
Pachira aquatica
Family
Malvaceae
Native Region
Wetlands and swamps of Central and South America
Growth Rate
Moderate
Origin + Story
Often confused with jade plant (Crassula ovata), which is also called money plant. Different species, different care. The braided trunk is a horticultural craft, not a natural feature.
Native to the wetlands and swamps of Central and South America. Grows naturally near water, which is why it tolerates more moisture than most houseplants. The braided form is created by training young, flexible trunks together as they grow.
Glossy, hand-shaped leaves with five distinct fingers, set on a sculptural braided trunk. Reads as both polished and a little folkloric.
Grows well in living rooms, entryways, and anywhere that wants a quiet good-luck gesture without saying so.
