Naming note. A cultivar of Philodendron erubescens, the same species base as Pink Princess and White Knight. Sometimes confused with 'Bloody Mary' or 'Imperial Red,' which are related but distinct cultivars with different leaf shapes and coloration.
The parent species is native to Colombia. The Dark Lord cultivar was selected for its intense, near-black leaf coloration and its elongated, arrow-shaped foliage.
Long, arrow-shaped leaves that emerge a startling orange-red and mature through wine to nearly black. Undersides stay a deep maroon. The stem is a matching burgundy. Reads as gothic and elegant without trying to.
Grows well with moss poles, dark stoneware, brass accents, and anyone who wants a philodendron with an entrance.
