Naming note. A cultivar of Scindapsus pictus (not S. treubii), sometimes labeled simply 'Platinum' or 'Platinum Silver.' The 'Java' designation refers to where the plant was originally selected. Related to but distinct from 'Silvery Ann' and 'Exotica,' which are other pictus cultivars with different variegation patterns.
The species (Scindapsus pictus) is native to Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia. The Platinum cultivar was selected for its higher proportion of silver variegation compared to the classic Exotica form.
Heart-shaped leaves with heavy silver overlay on deep green. The Platinum has more silver than green in most leaves, which distinguishes it from other pictus cultivars. Trails long, thin vines with well-spaced leaves.
Grows well with hanging planters, high shelves, and Scindapsus collectors rounding out their pictus lineup.
