Syngonium Albo Variegated
Scientific Name
Syngonium podophyllum 'Albo Variegatum'
Family
Araceae
Native Region
Latin America, from Mexico through Bolivia
Growth Rate
Moderate
Origin + Story
The white-variegated form of the arrowhead vine. Variegation is unstable: leaves can shift in pattern or revert. That unpredictability is part of the appeal.
Native to Latin America, from Mexico through Bolivia. A climbing aroid that begins life with arrowhead-shaped juvenile leaves and develops more lobed, mature foliage as it climbs.
Arrowhead-shaped leaves splashed with bright white and cream, sometimes nearly half-and-half. No two leaves look the same.
Grows well on moss poles, on collector shelves, in bright corners, with anyone who appreciates the unpredictability of variegation.
Care guide
Light: Bright indirect light. More than a solid green Syngonium needs.
Water: When the top inch is dry.
Humidity: 50% and up for happy variegation.
Temperature: 65 to 80°F.
Soil: Chunky aroid mix.
Growth Rate: Moderate.
Detailed care
Light
Bright, indirect. Variegated forms need more light than solid green ones to maintain pattern.
Watering
Top inch dry, then thoroughly.
Humidity
50% or higher to keep the variegation healthy.
Soil
Chunky aroid mix.
Feeding
Monthly in spring and summer. Slightly less than a non-variegated plant, since it grows more slowly.
Common Issues
Reverting leaves: Cut back to a variegated section to encourage variegated regrowth.
Browning on white sections: White tissue lacks chlorophyll and is more fragile. Manage light and humidity carefully.
Leggy growth: Wants support to climb.
